Mumbai Indians are playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 without their key batter Suryakumar Yadav. The batter is still unfit to play in the league and there is still no clarity when he is back on the field for the five-time champions in the ongoing league.
Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the IPL 2024 underwent a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy on 19th March. But the batter didn’t get the clearance and was ruled out of the team’s first game against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad.
It was expected that Suryakumar Yadav would be fit for the Mumbai Indians’ second game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match will be taking place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (27th March). But that hasn’t been the case as he has been ruled out of the game.
Suryakumar Yadav underwent another fitness Test recently but he yet again didn’t get another fitness clearance. With all the speculations about the availability of the batter for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, reports in RevSportz have provided a massive update about the batter.
The reports claimed that Suryakumar Yadav will be undergoing another fitness test on March 28 at the National Cricket Academy. A source in Mumbai Indians has revealed that the franchise is hopeful of the batter not missing the Indian Premier League and is likely to be available from the game against Rajasthan Royals on 1st April.
The reports also added that Suryakumar Yadav has been showing positive signs and is nearing full fitness soon. The batter hasn’t shared any videos of his batting and training, but it is expected that he will be available for the majority of the games of Mumbai Indians in the league.
Suryakumar Yadav has been out of action since December last year. The batter suffered an ankle injury during the T20 series against South Africa. After that, he was diagnosed with Sports Hernia. The batter then underwent surgery and since then has been undergoing rehab.
We are awaiting updates on Suryakumar Yadav from the BCCI – Mark Boucher
Mumbai Indians head coach recently was asked about the fitness of the Suryakumar Yadav. Replying to this he replied that they were waiting update from the BCCI and the batter missed the the first few games for them. While talking about the injury concerns, he stated:
“We are awaiting updates on Suryakumar from the BCCI. We have always been under a cloud of fitness issues but we have a world-class medical team. We may lose one or two in terms of fitness but we have to move on.
“As the coach of Mumbai Indians, I am going to be a little bit biased and hope to see my best players in all the games. I have a soft spot for my players and I do understand that they might have niggles and that’s when I will fall back on my medical team and work with them accordingly.”
Mumbai Indians suffered a loss in their first game of the IPL 2024. They lost to Gujarat Tiants and would be keen to make a comeback in the second game.
