Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs took a dig at Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Travis Head following the loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Herschelle Gibbs' statement related to Travis Head's warning to score 300 runs in an innings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

The in-form Sunrisers suffered a defeat against the bottom-ranked Royal Challengers in the 41st match of the IPL 2024 season. The Hyderabad team lost the match by 35 runs in Hyderabad on Thursday, April 25. This loss halted SRH's streak of four consecutive wins in the ongoing marquee tournament.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first. The visiting team posted a total of 206 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Virat Kohli (51 off 43) and Rajat Patidar (50 off 20) scored half-centuries, while Cameron Green contributed an unbeaten 37 runs off 20 runs in the death overs.

The Pat Cummins-led team scored 171 runs for the loss of eight wickets during the run chase. In-form batters Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen departed early, which impacted the outcome of the match. Head scored just one run off three deliveries before being dismissed by Will Jacks in the first over.

Travis Head Said He Wants 300 But... - Herschelle Gibbs

Herschelle Gibbs responded to Travis Head's comment about aiming for a 300-plus total. The former South African opener's comments highlight that chasing a challenging target on a slow pitch requires more skill than setting a high score in the first innings.

"I know travis head said he wants 300 but chasing 207 on a slower wicket would have been just as skilful," Gibbs said after the SRH vs RCB match on X (formerly known as Twitter).

SRH surpassed the 250-run mark three times during this IPL season. They set a record IPL score of 277 runs against the Mumbai Indians (MI), before breaking their record against RCB by scoring 287 runs. Additionally, they scored 266 runs against the Delhi Capitals (DC) prior to the RCB match.

The Beauty Will Always Be In The Chase - Herschelle Gibbs

Herschelle Gibbs suggested that while high scores like 300 in T20s and 500 in ODIs may be scored, the beauty will always be in the chase

"Talking international cricket, im pretty sure 300 in t20s and 500 in odis will be scored but the beauty will always be in the chase," Gibbs posted.

Sunrisers Hyderabad maintain their position in third place on the IPL 2024 league table despite their defeat to RCB, having secured 10 points from eight matches. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru still find themselves at the bottom of the table with just four points from nine matches.

The Hyderabad-based team will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their upcoming match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, April 28.
