Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) find themselves in a familiar rut, languishing at the eighth position in the IPL 2024 points table after winning just one out of their first five matches.
Their season began with a defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) followed by a narrow victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS). However, their homecoming at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium proved to be a disappointment with losses against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Atul Wassan’s bizarre reason for RCB’s defeat
Most recently, RCB fell short against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur, losing by 6 wickets. While fans are understandably frustrated, former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan‘s take on RCB’s struggles is particularly bizarre.
Wassan has expressed his desire to see RCB losing all their matches, citing Virat Kohli‘s decision not to bring his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma onto the franchise’s coaching staff.
“I want RCB to lose all the matches and end at the bottom of the points table; Virat Kohli has been there in a setup since 2008, there’ve been a lot of coaches of RCB but he never took his coach [Rajukumar Sharma] to RCB, so that’s why I always want RCB to lose,” Wassan was quoted as saying to India News.

RCB loses despite Virat Kohli smashing a ton against RR
However, amidst RCB’s struggles, Kohli himself has been in phenomenal form with the bat. He currently leads the Orange Cap’s chart with staggering 316 runs at an average of 105.33 and a strike rate of 146.29, including one century and two half-centuries.
Kohli’s unbeaten knock of 113 against RR was the first hundred of the season, but it proved insufficient as Rajasthan chased down the 184-run target with ease, thanks in part to Jos Buttler’s sixth IPL century, his first of the 2024 season.
