During Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday (May 2) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Australian batter Travis Head had a stroke of luck when he was dropped by Riyan Parag off the very first ball he faced. This incident unfolded in the opening over of SRH’s innings, bowled by Trent Boult, after SRH’s captain Pat Cummins chose to bat first.
Riyan Parag’s costly drop and lucky escape for Travis Head
Boult delivered the first ball, pitching it fullish outside off, and it seemed to shape away late. Head, the explosive southpaw, threw his hands at it and attempted to drive it towards backward point. Parag, positioned at that fielding spot, managed to get both hands to the ball on his left side but couldn’t grasp it, granting Head an early reprieve. This dropped catch proved to be a costly miss for RR as Head went on to smash 58 runs off just 44 balls, comprising 6 boundaries and 3 sixes.

Late surge propels Sunrisers Hyderabad to a formidable total
Earlier, SRH team faced a shaky start as both Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh fell early within the powerplay, leaving SRH at a precarious 35/2. However, the momentum shifted with the entrance of Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who launched a remarkable counterattack against the RR’s bowling unit.
Displaying sheer ferocity, the duo took on bowlers like Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin, peppering the boundaries to stabilize their side’s innings and infuse it with a burst of energy. Nevertheless, in the 15th over, Avesh Khan managed to dismiss Head, who played on to a wider delivery onto the stumps, resulting in an embarrassing exit. Following Head’s departure, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy capitalized on the momentum, preventing RR from settling and adding 70 runs in the last five overs, propelling the total to 201/3.
