The RCB vs KKR IPL 2024 match will be played at the Chinnaswamy stadium on March 29 from 7.30 pm IST. This is the second straight home game for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Kolkata Knight Riders after their first win at home play their next three at home before coming back to Eden Gardens on April 14. They start against RCB and play at their favourable Chinnaswamy stadium. Interestingly, KKR have a favourable 18-14 head-to-head count against RCB in 32 IPL games.
Team Analysis
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB have tasted success at home as they defeated Punjab Kings in their previous game. Led by Virat Kohli’s 77, Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the game by four wickets and with four balls to spare.
Their bowlers did a good job of not conceding over 200 runs. Their batters again did the job by chasing down the total at a chasing ground. Kohli, Faf and Dinesh Karthik all have their strike rates on the higher side against KKR and love playing against them. What they would ideally want is not to concede above 200 if they are asked to bowl first.
Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR would consider themselves lucky to win their first game at home. All the team have won their first game at home. KKR will now be on the move and winning away from home will be important. Their batters did a good job to post a score above 200 but their bowlers nearly spilt it.
KKR have a few areas to work on heading into this contest. They will need Mitchell Starc to step up and need to sort out their opening combination. Over the last two seasons, the Knight Riders used 12 different opening combinations and lost nearly 60 wickets in the powerplay. While Phil Salt looks the settled overseas opener, KKR needs to identify who can open with him for a longer run. The Sunil Narine experiment did not work in the last game.
Key Factors
Pitch Conditions
The Chinnaswamy stadium is historically a chasing ground and RCB proved the saying right in their last game against Punjab Kings. 50 out of almost 90 matches have been won by the team chasing. This is also a six-hitting venue with the most sixes being hit at this stadium. The pitch has true bounce and carry and the ball will come into bat quickly. The Chinnaswamy is often called the bowler’s graveyard.
Form and Fitness
Fitness-wise the two teams have no injury concerns with the current lot of players on both sides. Virat Kohli gave a glimpse of his batting form against Punjab Kings with a blazing 77 with talks of him likely to be not included in India’s T20 World Cup squad. After not scoring a fifty last season, Andre Russell started with 64 off 25 balls. Shreyas Iyer bagged a first-ball duck while Ramandeep Singh and Rinku Singh played handy cameos.

Tactical Acumen
For KKR, the tactical acumen will come from Gautam Gambhir who will have his plans to stop the likes of Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik who have a good record against KKR. RCB will have their own plans to stop the big West Indian. Tactical acumen for KKR also needs to be around Mitchell Starc who went for 51 in the first game and remained wicketless. KKR needs wickets from him in the powerplay.
