Shivam Dube's confirmed ticket for T20 World Cup 2024- Virender Sehwag' sensational revelation

Cricketer-turned-commentator Virender Sehwag has voiced his support for Shivam Dube to play for Team India in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Virender Sehwag wants a confirmed ticket for Shivam Dube in the World Cup squad after his spectacular batting show in recent times. 

Shivam Dube is part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024. With 148 runs across 4 games, he is the leading run-getter for the side. Moreover, the left-handed batter also has a fabulous strike rate of 160+. Batting in the lower-middle order, Dube has shattered brilliant knocks in 3 matches out of 4.

He slammed an unbeaten 34 in the opening match against RCB to drive the team to victory. Later, he stormed a quickfire 51 in the 2nd game versus Gujarat Titans (GT) to help the team overpower the Shubman Gill & Co.

He got out cheaply for 18 vs Delhi Capitals but returned with a stunning knock of 45 in the previous clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Shivam Dube’s ticket should be confirmed for T20 World Cup: Virender Sehwag 

After Shivam Dube’s consistent show in IPL 2024, India batting legend Virender Sehwag has backed his place in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag reckoned that the CSK all-rounder should get a confirmed ticket for T20 World Cup 2024. 

"I said before the match that the way Shivam Dube has been playing, his ticket should be confirmed for the T20 World Cup”, the former India opener said. 

Sehwag, who was part of the ODI World Cup-winning team in 2011, also highlighted that Shivam Dube has put a lot of pressure on other Indian batters who are in a race to get a spot in the World Cup. 

“He has put a lot of pressure on players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and now they have to score consistent runs to make the World Cup squad. Take the players who are in form," the 45-year-old further added.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024 starts on June 1 

Meanwhile, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is set to take place in the West Indies and the USA in June 2024. The tournament will commence on June 1, shortly after IPL 2024.

Since Team India is scheduled to play in the T20 World Cup after IPL 2024, players with good shows in the league can make it to the WC squad.

India is part of Group A in the ICC event with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and USA in their group. Notably, Shivam Dube gave a wonderful batting show in the previous T20I series against Afghanistan and South Africa too.  

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have lost their last two games in IPL 2024. With 4 points in four games, the men-in-yellow take the 3rd spot in the points table.

Ruturaj Gaikwad leads CSK in IPL 2024 after taking over the captaincy from MS Dhoni. Chennai will lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match.
